Human body is the main focus of my work. The body as a whole, in its corporeal and incorporeal forms, which contains and transmutes everything. A line from my video art “Water Ritual” summarizes this notion: “The keys of all knowledge are hidden inside our bodies.” I seek in the body not only answers but also new questions. In this search dance, video, performance, installations, paintings are involved in trying to see things from different angles, wherever the investigation leads me. With X-Rays , tomography and all sorts of internal body images, I Create “portraits” and integrate them into paintings, videos and installations. Since 1994, I’m working with chromosomes, genetic sequences and even graphics of my own DNA, printed in latex. I have used the genetic sequences of toxic gene mutations and genetic addictions, as well as flora and fauna genes, always replacing the A-T-C-G (adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine) for colors and forms that add cultural meaning to nature, with the belief that we are able to modify our environment and that the environment is also modifying us. I try to create a new dialogue using the idea of the human internal space, which has been baptized by writer and critic Celeste Olalaquiaga as “the third nature”.
